Senior Manager, Operations

This is a Full-time position in Sarasota, FL posted October 17, 2021.

Leading the Operations function for the Sarasota production facility the Sr.

Manager Operations will oversee Production, Manufacturing Engineering, and Supply Chain (including procurement, planning, and external manufacturing).

Managing Production / Manufacturing Supervisors to ensure that production takes place in accordance with safety, quality, compliance and meets delivery and efficiency targets.

Managing the Supply Chain function, which includes procurement, sourcing, external manufacturing, and production planning to ensure that OTIF targets are met, raw material inventory is available for production, production plans are developed and executed, the SIOP meeting is led by the Operations function, and purchase orders are placed for direct materials and the rest of the business in a timely manner.

Managing the Manufacturing Engineering function to ensure transfer products from R&D into Operations and commercial production, implement process improvements resulting in optimized safety, quality, compliance, delivery, and efficiency.

Implementing manufacturing automation, lean, and six-sigma strategies to reduce scrap and waste and ensure Operational Excellence through Engineering, Science, and Technology.

Providing leadership guidance to the Operations function to ensure that the Operations Must Do’s: Safety, Quality, Compliance, Delivery, and Efficiency are developed into Team Goals, rolled out to the organization, have clear quantitative metrics in each category and the quantitative metrics are tracked, monitored, reported, and continuously improved.

Proliferating Operational Excellence culture throughout the organization, leading through inclusion, partnership and collaboration with other functions, internal and external customers.

Service as a technical SME from the Operations function in cross-functional meetings, providing guidance, and decisions from the Operations perspective.


This position reports to the Vice President and General Manager, Sports Medicine.

Major Duties and Responsibilities/Authority:

Leading the Operations team to execute the 5 Operations Must Do’s: Safety, Quality, Compliance, Delivery, and Efficiency.

Ensuring that safety incidents and accidents are kept to a minimum, quality is designed and built into the product, compliance is in line with internal procedures and regional standards and regulations, OTIF and safety stock targets are met, and efficiency in the form of labor productivity and material use efficiency is continuously optimized.

Led the team with a vision of continuous improvement in every department within the function, internally, from a technological perspective, in partnership with third party contract manufacturing, and in collaboration with the partner functions including EHS, Warehousing, Quality, Customer Service, Regulatory, HR, R&D, among others.

Implementing Operations strategy for the Sarasota facility in line with the Corporate Operations Strategy laid out by senior leadership.

Serving as the leader of Technical Operations / Engineering, Manufacturing and Packaging, as well as the Supply Chain function to enable strong collaboration internally, with partner functions, and with the customers.

Providing leadership guidance to the design team from an Operations perspective, service as the guide and leader during design transfer of new products into production.

Project management and training of personnel on Project management as necessary.

Leading the timely resolution of safety and quality issues raised by customers or staff for all aspects of Operations.

Supporting Quality System and Safety and Health Program by following procedures, advising others, and working in partnership with the Quality Manager / Director and EHS Manager / Director to enable a Quality and Safety focused culture.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to work at a desk.

The employee might be frequently required to climb stairs, kneel, or crouch, in accordance with job duties.

Ability to lift up to 30lbs.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

Engineering degree, preferably Mechanical, science degree, manufacturing degree, or other technical degree are acceptable for this role.

5+ years minimum industrial experience supporting the Operations teams as a Manufacturing Engineer, Production Manager, Supply Chain Manager, or related function; 3+ years’ experience with machining or molding operations preferred.

A Master’s degree may be a substitute for up to 2 years’ experience depending on the relevance and focus.

A specialized bachelor’s degree may be a substitute for up to 1 year of experience depending on the relevance and focus.

Strong manufacturing experience with various CNC equipment.

Strong experience with Supply Chain disciplines including sourcing, purchasing, management of external manufacturing a plus.

Track record in Engineering (R&D or Manufacturing) a strong asset for this role.

Track record of industrializing medical devices at production volume levels of 50-1,000 units per batch, molding, machining, screw-machining, sand blasting, deburring experience preferred.

Experience with or ability to learn Statistical Analysis Methodology such as Six Sigma or LEAN.

Experience with or ability to learn MS Office, SolidWorks and/or other CAD/CAM packages, and inspection/testing software.

Medical experience and/or familiarity with FDA QSR’s and ISO 13485 desirable.
