Public Sector Cost Accounting/Performance Solutions

JOB SUMMARY

Our national, public sector consulting firm is seeking a Senior Consultant to be an integral part of our cost accounting and cost analysis team that serves local and state governments and nonprofits, with a focus on state government and nonprofit health and human service agencies. This position will assist with the creation of cost allocation plans, indirect cost rates, and related deliverables for clients. Responsibilities may include interviewing client staff, gathering data, assembling and preparing information, preparing reports or claims, researching grants and regulations, participating in presentations, and other project tasks as directed.

To be successful, candidates should have public sector financial analysis experience either as a public employee or as a consultant. Advanced Excel skills with pivot tables and experience with databases is required. The ideal candidate will have cost allocation plan development in the past or have experience with government cost accounting, grant management, revenue recovery and/or health and human services programs such as Medicaid, Title IV-E, TANF, Child Support, etc. The firm will provide specific training on the firm’s proprietary cost allocation plan systems. Candidates should be willing to problem-solve, conduct research, learn about new programs, and be self-motivated. Candidates must be comfortable presenting in front of virtual and physical groups and be looking for advancement in their career.

The individual should also have a genuine interest in working with the public sector, mission driven work, and fiscal projects. This position requires significant time working directly with spreadsheets and numbers. It also requires understanding of various federal programs, grants, and how public entities and nonprofits function.

MAJOR DUTIES

  • Begin, complete, and renew client work with minimal oversight
  • Develop strong client relationships across all levels of public sector and nonprofit organizations
  • Participate in and eventually lead client meetings
  • Manage and participate in the gathering of required data and process calculations on behalf of clients
  • Problem solve complex issues on behalf of clients
  • Research existing and/or learn new regulations, programs, and subject matter areas
  • Present information orally and in reports
  • Supervise work of other consulting staff and eventually direct reports
  • Participate in business development efforts, including the generation of new business ideas and leads and prepare proposals and presentations
  • Participate in corporate activities and show a commitment to firm culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED BY THE POSITION

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially strong analytical experience in Excel
  • Experience with the practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions or measurements
  • Experience with and comfort learning database systems
  • Ability to work independently outside a traditional office environment
  • Ability to develop relationships with both colleagues and clients at varying levels of organizations
  • Working knowledge of project management methodologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
  • Experience with leadership and the desire to grow leadership skills
  • Curiosity
  • The ability to prepare and present clear and concise client-ready documents (superior attention to detail)
  • The ability to meet competing deadlines
  • The ability to communicate with other team mates to ensure work is done and not try to accomplish everything by yourself

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required
  • Five or more years of public sector or consulting experience in accounting, finance, or grant management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree, CPA, and/or PMP
  • Knowledge of or experience working with public assistance programs including Medicaid, Title IV-E, TANF, SNAP, Child Support, and/or other public assistance programs
  • Knowledge of or experience working with public health programs
  • Experience with completing federal claiming forms
  • Experience preparing cost allocation plans and/or indirect cost rates

OTHER INFORMATION

  • Travel could be anytime throughout the year and direct client interaction is required on a project-by-project basis
  • Travel demands vary based on client-organizations’ needs and locations
  • Periodically requires overnight stays
  • Must be available to travel approximately 20% of the time
  • Remote office location
