Custom Shop Production Manager

5.11 Tactical

This is a Contract position in North Port, FL posted September 23, 2022.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Custom Shop Director, the Custom Shop Production Manager is responsible for planning and organizing all aspects of Production Operations, it’s work processes, schedules, and resources.

This role oversees the activities of Production Scheduling, Supply and 3 rd Party product purchasing, Alterations, Embroidery, Heat-press, Laser Engraving, Screen-printing, Quality-Control, Receiving and Shipping.

In partnership with the Custom Shop leadership team, this position helps plan, develop, implement, and maintain departmental procedures, goals, and strategies.

They will exhibit excellent people skills, an enthusiastic and positive attitude, strong problem-solving skills, and solid multi-tasking abilities while ensuring a high standard of safety, quality, and efficiency.

Must possess a close attention to detail and follow good judgement to exceed our customer’s expectations.

Responsible for exceeding department and individual goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Shares and speaks to the company mission, vision, values, quality policy, and safety protocols.

Maintains departments SOP’s, Job Descriptions, and training material.

Ensures all documents are kept current within the companies TMS folders and have been properly recorded and filed for ISO purposes.

Ensures all right Right-to-Know documents are properly posted (in the designated production floor kiosk and within the company’s intranet).

Ensures that Supervisors and Team Leads are properly training individual contributors to perform and comprehend all assigned tasks.

Supports and builds a cohesive team, bringing all departments together working towards a common goal.

Builds an environment that fosters employee retention and job satisfaction.

Forecasts and plans labor and supply demand based on booked open orders and prospects.

Responsible for production staffing needs, initiates interviewing and hiring processes in partnership with the Custom Shop Director, Production Floor Supervisor, Talent Acquisition, HR, and 3 rd party Temp Agencies.

Conducts annual production staff performance appraisals.

Establishes the department and individual contributors annual Goals.

Ensures goals are reviewed with all team members on a quarterly basis.

Oversees personnel scheduling and payroll.

Guide’s the Production Supervisor(S) and Team Leads as a mentor and roll-model, introducing and expanding on time management and organizational skills.

Manages Supervisor(s), Team Leads and Operators performance and accountabilities.

Performs re-training and/or corrective action as needed.

Conducts regular one on one touch bases with direct reports.

Maintains confidentiality regarding employee information.

Reports on Production Departments monthly KPI’s and SLA’s, including department capacity, labor, and revenue performance.

Oversees and supports production scheduling and planning.

Schedules and conducts daily production meetings along with key production staff, production coordination, art department and customer service representatives.

Works with 3 rd party vendors on outsource projects when capacities have been exceeded.

Plans and communicates production project scope and expectations with production teams.

Responsible for communicating any production related issues or delays to cross functional leaders.

Tracks order progress and prioritizes jobs with high importance.

Leverages Shopworks scheduling module and project trackers to ensure complex work is on track for timely completion.

Audits and spot checks work-flow processes for accuracy, efficiency, and quality.

Coordinates and validates all pre-production prep-work, in partnership with the Production Floor Supervisor(s), Customer Service, Art Department, Receiving, Purchasing and Pre-Press.

Keeps track of on-hand consumable inventories to ensure adequate supplies are available to meet demand.

Partners with the Sr.

Production Coordinator on supply management and vendor negotiations.

Ensures in-bound products (supplies, 3 rd party products, CPP patches, 5.11 products) are received in real time and properly located.

Supports the Production Floor Supervisor and Shipping team with critical outbound projects and communicates ASN details to the DC’s freight and international outbound teams.

Must gain knowledge and become proficient in the use of Shopworks, the 5.11 Company ERP Dynamics AX, and have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Must learn or have existing experience with all production embellishment techniques and application (i.e., Screen-Print, Heat-Press, Embroidery, Alterations, Laser Engraving, Quality Control and Embellishment file formats).

Must become familiar with all 5.11 products and their construction to better understand embellishment opportunities and limitations.

Must learn and understand all FTZ compliance requirements.

Ensures FTZ protocols are being followed.

Participates in annual compliance audits.

Organizes team meetings to encourage open communication and keep personnel informed of department performance.

Oversees equipment maintenance schedules, ensuring that all equipment is maintained and in working order.

Partners with facilities on preventative maintenance schedules and needed repair.

Ensures safety and health training is up to date and performed quarterly.

Addresses safety violations and concerns in real time, ensuring the production staffs safety is always top priority.

Stays up to date on the latest industry trends and technologies.

Oversees and schedules R&D and embellishment testing.

Keeps an open door policy, is accessible, and maintains consistent communication with staff.

Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and Experience: 5 years of management experience in manufacturing operations.

Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend English instructions.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions.

Ability to recognize and resolve problems quickly using sound judgment and diplomacy.

Computer Skills: Basic computer / keyboard knowledge is required.

Must have or acquire functional knowledge of company ERP (Dynamics AX) and the Custom Shop production management solution Shopworks.

Competent with Wilcom Embroidery Software, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Outlook and Excel.
