Trainee, Phlebotomy Services – Hialeah, FL – Monday-Friday

Basic Purpose:

Phlebotomy Services Representative Trainees are hired with the intent of developing the skills required of a Patient Services I (PSR I) by the end of the training program. The length of the training program will be established by the applicable department. Trainees understand that at completion of the training program they must demonstrate proficiency in all required competencies to be eligible to transfer into an open PSR I position (in either a Patient Service Center or Hospital setting). If there is no open PSR I position or the Trainee does not demonstrate proficiency in all competencies, the employee will be terminated from the Company.

PSR Trainees that demonstrate proficiency at the end of the training program (timeline as established by department) will be transferred into an open PSR I position in either a Patient Service Center or Hospital setting.

PSR Trainees will be taught the technical, legal, procedural and safety aspects of phlebotomy. PSR Trainees will learn to perform daily activities of a Quest PSR I accurately and on time. Maintain a safe and professional environment. Under the direction of the of District Supervisor, being trained by the District Training Specialist and or Site Lead/Trainer must learn to perform with confidence, both the forensic (drug screen training) clinical specimen collection and processing duties following established practices procedures and legal requirements. Learn to maintain required records and documentation. Demonstrates organizational commitment and promotes a positive and professional image to patients, clients, employees, and the public in general.

Trained Duties and Responsibilities:

1 Greet customers appropriately. Treat all customers in a courteous and professional manner.

2 Ensures all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.

a. Under constant supervision by the Training Specialist and/or Site Lead/Trainer may practice specimen collection according to established procedures and legal requirements.

b. Responsible for completing requisitions accurately.

c. Call clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information (i.e., Diagnosis codes, UPIN information, etc.)

d. Research test/client information utilizing lab computer system or Directory of Service.

e. Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.

f. Package specimens for transport.

3 Maintains required records and documentation.

a. Reads, understands and complies with departmental policies, protocols and procedures: (i.e., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Automobile policies and procedures, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual).

b. Maintains all appropriate PSC/Phlebotomy logs.

c. Assists with compilation of monthly statistics and data. Submits data on time.

d. Perform basic clerical duties as required by Quest Diagnostics, i.e., filing, faxing, preparing mail. Required to perform electronic data entry.

e. Submits accurate time and travel logs as directed by management and on time.

f. Submits accurate expense forms, if applicable, on the required day.

4 Demonstrates organizational commitment.

a. Adheres to departmental and company code of grooming, dress code and PPE guidelines, appears professional, neat and clean at all times.

b. Reports on time to work, following attendance guidelines.

c. Answers the telephone in a courteous and professional manner, by incorporating the company name, self-identification and a courteous greeting.

d. Communicates appropriately with clients, patients, coworkers and the public.

e. Communicates all unresolved problems immediately to the appropriate Manager, Supervisor, Group Lead or PSR II for resolution.

f. Remains professional, polite and courteous at all times.

5 Miscellaneous duties and responsibilities.

a. Keeps work area neat and clean. Disposes of biohazard containers when scheduled.

b. Help with inventories and other tasks as assigned.

c. Stock supplies as needed.

d. Performs other department-related duties when assigned.

e. Participates on teams and special projects when asked.

f. All other duties as assigned, within scope of position.

6 Requirements specific to Training schedule (Trainee Expectations)

a. Be on time and present to each class, for the entire class. Attendance is required.

b. Attentive and participate during class,

c. Maintain an 80% success rate on classwork and achieve an 80% or better final exam score.

d. Complete competencies as assigned by deadline.

e. Achieve proficient training levels and competencies in a timely manner.

f. Demonstrate 100 successful live sticks by the end of training under direct supervision.

g. Trainees are REQUIRED to perform multiple observed venipunctures and dermal punctures which may be on another trainee, and in turn each trainee may have venipuncture and dermal punctures performed on them by another trainee, there are no exceptions, participation is mandatory.

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Medical training helpful but not required.

Medical terminology helpful but not required.

Work Experience:

Keyboard/data entry application.

Experience in Customer Service.

Other:

1. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record, if applicable.

2. Demonstrates good organization, communication, and interpersonal skills, ability to manage concerns of patients and employees in a courteous and professional manner.

3. Capable of handling multiple priorities in a high-volume setting.

4. Ability to perform data-entry.

5. Able to satisfy all required vaccination requirements including but not limited to:

a. Hepatitis B (vaccine series)

b. TB

c. COVID-19 (if applicable)

d. Influenza (if applicable)
